High Point Furniture Market Fall 2024 Highlights

November 1, 2024 By David King

High Point Market Fall 2024 Highlights

The 2024 High Point Market in North Carolina (Oct. 26-30) showcased the latest trends in home furnishings and decor, with a strong emphasis on natural motifs, warm colors, inviting textures, and curvaceous designs. Our founder and local interior designer, David King, attended the event and shared his top insights. Here are the standout trends to watch as we move into 2025 and beyond.

Curves and Contrasts

Curves continue to dominate the design landscape, drawing inspiration from 1980s postmodernism, Art Deco, and classical architecture. This season, we saw an abundance of cocoon-like swivel chairs, undulating sofas, and arched table bases. However, manufacturers are now pairing these rounded forms with sharper accent pieces featuring checkered, gridded, and plaid patterns, creating a refreshing contrast that adds visual interest to any space.

Tactile Textures

“Tactile” remains the buzzword in trending textures. Designers are pushing the boundaries with exploded boucle, tweed, corduroy, plush fleece, and cut velvet, often with a nod to the 1960s and ’70s. While these bold materials appeared on a few statement couches, they were more commonly seen on pillows, occasional chairs, and stools. The tactile trend extends beyond textiles to include wood, stone, metal, and glass, all manipulated to highlight the craftsmanship and invite touch. Soft, mohair-like velvet and buttery leather also made a strong showing on new sofas.

Warm and Earthy Colors

Color trends at High Point Market revealed a shift towards warmer, earthy tones. “Green is the new blue and brown is the new gray” aptly describes the prevailing palette. Neutrals have taken on warmer hues, with shades of brown ranging from chocolate to caramel and sand forming the foundation of many designs. Greens and blue-greens outnumbered traditional blues, while nuanced shades of frosted moss, taupe, and sandy beige added depth. Jewel tones and spicy colors, reminiscent of the 1970s, appeared in rugs, occasional chairs, and accent pieces, with burgundy, deep teal, gold, terra cotta, and forest greens leading the way.

Metallic Finishes and Stone Patterns

Antique and brushed brass continue to be popular, but darker, more rustic tones like iron, bronze, and gunmetal are gaining traction. Detailed metalwork in these finishes was prominent, complementing the revival of travertine in occasional and dining tables, particularly from Italian manufacturers. Trend forecasters predict that reddish, burned brass and copper, seen at European shows, will become more popular in the U.S. We also noticed an increase in aluminum and stainless steel finishes in furniture and lighting, indicating a growing trend.
