Furniture Salvage Q&A:
Q: Insurance claims, I need receipts for previous purchase… are you able to help me access them from your records?
A: Please contact us and we will access records and provide any documentation we have and you may need.
Q: Can my sofa be Saved?
A: If your upholstery has been sitting in water beyond the height of the leg, the concern is Mold accumulation. Exterior can be cleaned per the cleaning code for the fabric or leather. If water saturated the interior cushion foam and framing, mold will grow now and in the months to come. This is not salvageable. If isolated to a part, it may be replaced.
Q: I have a Motion sofa / recliner – can parts be replaced?
A: All electronic parts can be replaced. If your piece uses a battery and it was sitting in water – you should not use it and will require replacement. If the Upholstery was sitting in water, please refer to answer above.
Q: My area rug has water damage, how should I clean?
A: Once Air dried – have it professionally cleaned to ensure all mold spores have been eliminated.
Q: My wood furniture (bed/dresser/dining/etc) was sitting in water.
A: Dry pieces out immediately. Composite and veneer items will swell and deteriorate quickly. Solid wood items may be more resistance, especially if sealed. Clean items well with a mild bleach solution and once dry, replenish with a wood conditioner. Monitor for swelling and splitting. Some parts may be replaceable , such as chair legs, drawers, etc. if damage is localized and serviceable.
If we can answer any additional questions for you, feel free to call or stop by our showrooms for assistance.
In gratitude,
David King – DōMA President & CEO
